Adding a License in a Mobility Master Deployment License Installation Adding a License in a Mobility Master Deployment Starting in ArubaOS 8.0, the only way to install a license in a Mobility Master deployment is to install that device on Mobility Master, and then associate that license to either a specific managed device, or a shared pool of licenses. Licenses cannot be added directly to a managed device via the managed device's UI. Before you can use the Aruba Software License Management Web site to generate a license for Mobility Master or a managed device installed on a VM, you must obtain the following:  A License Certificate ID, which you can request from your sales account manager or authorized reseller.  A VM serial number and a n ArubaOS passphrase.

 Access to the Aruba licensing Web site Access to the HPE Aruba licensing Web site at A physical (non-VM) Aruba controller ships with a unique serial number. Only the serial number of the controller and the certificate ID are required to generate and install a license on a stand-alone controller, or to generate a non-sharable, device-specific license for a controller configured as a managed device, For more information, see Step 1: Identify the Mobility Master Serial Number and Passphrase The Mobility Master serial number and passphrase are required to generate a license key for that specific VM configuration. The Mobility Master serial number is auto-generated, and does not have to be manually configured.

Use the passphrase, the Mobility Master serial number, and the certificate ID in the licensing website to generate a license key that can be added to sharable license pools on Mobility Master. Step 2: Identify the Managed Device Serial Number and Passphrase Managed devices can be installed on a server VM. If you have a managed device installed on a VM, you must configure the managed device VM serial number and identify the VM passphrase to generate a non-sharable license for that device. (These non-sharable licenses are assigned to that specific managed device via Mobility Master. For details, see.) Before you install ArubaOS on a VM instead of a physical Aruba controller, contact your Aruba sales representative or authorized reseller and request a VM serial number, and then use this serial number as a part of your VM configuration.

This serial number is a randomly generated string in the format DC, for example, DC0000001. You must configure the VM serial number and identify the passphrase for that device before you can generate a license key for that specific VM configuration.

 To identify the serial number for a physical controller, issue the command show inventory.  To configure the serial number for a managed device on a server VM, access the managed device via the command-line interface and issue the command product serial-number.  To identify the passphrase for a managed device on a server VM, access the managed device via the command-line interface and issue the command show license passphrase. Step 3: Enable Sharable Licensing Features Once you have installed Mobility Master on a VM, you must enable support for sharable ArubaOS licenses by enabling each licensing feature type via the Mobility Master WebUI or command-line interfaces.
